“Shelley”: Film review

Forest-dwelling vegetarian couple living without electricity enlist young Romanian woman to help out as the wife recovers from surgery. It’s not long before the young woman agrees to be a surrogate mother for the couple, as the wife cannot bring a pregnancy to term.
The young woman begins to feel that something isn’t right, though – whether it’s the creepy crying baby sound in the forest in and out of her dreams, of the local shamanic reiki-type old Gandalf dude who comes by to adjust the wife’s energy, or perhaps the occasional morning waking up smeared in blood having chased down and eaten one of the couple’s chickens raw: something is clearly going sideways here. How far sideways will it go? It will go all the way sideways, that’s how far.
