“The Gift”: Film review

Joel Edgerton never quite seems to maximize the potential of his fringe loner character Gordo, who takes advantage of a chance encounter with old high school bully-nemesis Simon (Jason Bateman) to set up a long drawn out campaign of revenge harassment. Ultimately a dog is kidnapped and returned, a window gets broken (but not by Gordo, in fact), a fake claim is temporarily made concerning parentage of a child, there’s some breaking and entering, and the breaking of a marriage as the truth about Simon’s less than exemplary past comes out.
But there’s no real thrill here in this thriller, and no real danger in the stalking. Entertaining but not earth-shattering.
